How people invented irrational numbers?

Q. I wonder, how people invented the constant e which often called Euler's number or base of natural logrithm and e is also an irrational number.
For instance, I know pi which is ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter and it is also a constant and of course an irrational number.
And Golden mean is also a constant which is ratio of line to its larger segment is equal to ratio of the larger segment to its smaller segment. And you can Golden mean almost everywhere in the nature, i.e. your own body.

WHAT ABOUT e?
I would give the 10 points to whom, who explain it better.
Thanks for answering.

A. e first came about during John Napier's studies of logarithms, although the first calculations of it appear to have been in the work of Bernoulli:

lim (as n -> inf) of (1 + 1/n)^n

In fact, outside the sciences, the place where e most often occurs naturally is in the financial world.

When interest on an investment is compounded, we talk about the "compounding period": interest can be compounded annually, monthly, daily. The formulas for the change in value of an investment is:

A = P·(1 + r/n)^(nt)

where A = the final amount, P = the principal, r = the annual interest rate, n = the number of compounding periods per year, and t = the number of years.

When money is compounded annually, n = 1; when it's compounded monthly, n = 12; and when it's compounded daily, n = 365 (though sometimes banks use 360, to simplify calculations).

See how n is going up? So what happens if we compound every hour? every minute? every second? In fact, if we "compound continuously," then we're letting n approach infinity, and the function actually becomes

A = P·e^(rt)

There are a couple articles linked below that give more info. Hope that answers your question!

It is mathematically possible to calculate the area of a penis?
Q. It is not a rectangle or a cylinder. Using purely mathematical formulas, it is possible to calculate the area?

A. Hello :P

I suppose you mean areal surface area of the penis.

Imagining develop a penis on a plane, with "area of the penis" there refers to the area occupied by the development of the penis on the floor.

Suppose we develop an erect penis so as to prevent the variety that represents the surface is twisted around itself or other problems occur topological [in this case is really the development of an area].

From the mathematical point of life is a penis? We can assume that a subset Ω â IR ³ or a solid.

How can we describe this solid Ω which we calculate the surface area? Given the particularly bizarre form which unfortunately [or fortunately] is not attributable to any known primary function must use one or more functions that approximate the shape.

At the application layer after performing the steps trying to determine "the equation of the penis, or recourse to methods provided by the theory of functions tries to find a function or equation that best approximates the values obtained from the measures.

We hypothesize that the penis has a uniform cylindrical shape, at least for the trunk. Under this hypothesis, intersects the cylinder forming the trunk with a plan will get a circle of radius R. A better approximation can be obtained by considering an elliptical rather than circular cylinder with a director [eccentricity may be more or less pronounced].

We now give some definitions that will be useful later

DEFINITION 1

We define the total length â of the penis the following size

â: = â â + â â

where

â â penis length is measured from the bottom to the base of the glans
â â is the length of the glans

DEFINITION 2

We define the penis in this way

Ω: = Ω â U Ω â

where

Ω â: = ((x, y, z) â IR ³ x ² + y ² = R ², 0 ⤠z ⤠â â) is the trunk of the penis [R is the radius of the circle described previously]

Ω â = ((x, y, z) â IR ³ ...) is the glans

I left because of ellipses describe the glans from the mathematical point of view is a real problem.

As I mentioned previously, it is necessary to find the equation of a surface or a function that approximates the shape.

The first function that comes to mind is the Gauss bell function described by equation

Æ (x, y) = exp (- y ² - x ²)

http://img147.imageshack.us/i/oeb2d8tmp.jpg/

or even the paraboloid of equation

Æ (x, y) = â â - y ² - x ²

http://img147.imageshack.us/i/immaginext.jpg/

If we use this second function to approximate the glans will

Ω â = ((x, y, z) â IR ³: â â ⤠z ⤠â â - y ² - x ²)

Now we have to do some 'healthy crafts.

Regarding the surface area of the trunk will

A_Ω â = 2ÏR â â

We now calculate the surface area of the glans by calculating the surface area underlying the paraboloid

Æ (x, y) = â â - y ² - x ²

To do this we will use a formula that represents the same two variables calcoalo of the length of a curve subtended a function of a variable.

In a variable length of a curve subtended a function Æ (x) is given by the following equation:

L: = INTEGRAL between α & β â (1 + Æ '(x)) dx

where α & β are the endpoints of the curve

In two variables underlying the surface area is a function Æ (x, y) given by the following equation:

A double integral over T = (â (1 + [â / â x [Æ (x, y)]] ² + [â / â y [Æ (x, y) dxdy )]]²)

where T is the set bounded by the edge of the area.

In our case we

T: = ((x, y) â IR ²: x ² + y ² ⤠â â)

Æ (x, y) = â â - y ² - x ²

â / â x [Æ (x, y)] = â / â x [â â - y ² - x ²] = - 2x

â / â y [Æ (x, y)] = â / â y [â â - y ² - x ²] = - 2y

and therefore

A_Ω â = double integral over T (â (1 + [â / â x [Æ (x, y)]] ² + [â / â y [Æ (x, y) dxdy = )]]²)

Double integral over T = (â (1 + (-2x) ² + (-2y) ²)) dxdy =

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4x ² + 4y ²)) dxdy =

At this point we switch to polar coordinates to simplify the calculations

(X: = Ïcos (θ)
(Y = Ïsen (θ)

T: = ((Ï, θ) â IR ²: 0 â¤ Ï â¤ â (â â), 0 ⤠θ ⤠2Ï)

Recalling that by applying the generic change of coordinates

(X: = Ï (u, v)
(Y = Ï (u, v)

is called "Jacobian of transformation" for the following

J: = |. . . â / â u [Ï (u, v)]. . â / â v [Ï (u, v)]. . . |
. . . . |. . . â / â u [Ï (u, v)]. . â / â v [Ï (u, v)]. . . |

and recalling that by applying the above change of coordinates is the following relation

Double integral on T Æ (x, y) dxdy =

Double integral over T = Æ (Ï (Ï, θ), Ï (Ï, θ)) * det | J | dÏdθ

in our case we

(X = Ï (Ï, θ) = Ïcos (θ)
(Y = Ï (Ï, θ) = Ïsen (θ)

â / â θ [Ïcos (θ)] =-Ïsen (θ)

â / â Ï [Ïcos (θ)] = cos (θ)

â / â θ [Ïsen (θ)] = Ïcos (θ)

â / â Ï [Ïsen (θ)] = sin (θ)

J: = |. . . â / â u [Ï (Ï, θ)]. . â / â v [Ï (Ï, θ)]. . . |
. . . . |. . . â / â u [Ï (Ï, θ)]. . â / â v [Ï (Ï, θ)]. . . |

J = |. . . â / â Ï [Ïcos (θ)]. . â / â θ [Ïcos (θ)]. . |
. . . |. . . â / â Ï [Ïsen (θ)]. . â / â θ [Ïsen (θ)]. . |

J = |. . cos (θ). . -Ρsen (θ). . |
. . . |. . sin (θ). . . Ρcos (θ). . |

det | J | = Ïcos ² (θ) + Ïsen ² (θ) = Ï [cos ² (θ) + sen ² (θ)] = Ï

and therefore

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4x ² + 4y ²)) dxdy =

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4 (Ïcos (θ)) ² + 4 (Ïsen (θ)) ²)) = ÏdÏdθ

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4Ï Â² cos ² (θ) + 4Ï sen ² ² (θ))) = ÏdÏdθ

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4Ï Â² (cos ² (θ) + sen ² (θ)))) = ÏdÏdθ

Double integral over T = (â (1 + 4Ï Â²)) = ÏdÏdθ

= (INTEGRAL between 0 & 2Ï dθ) * (INTEGRAL between 0 & â (â â) (Ï â (1 + 4Ï Â²))) = dÏ

= ([Î] _calcolato between 0 & 2Ï) * ((1 / 12) â ((1 + 4Ï Â²)³)]_ calculated 0 & â (â â)) =

= (2Ï) * (1 / 12) [â ((1 + 4 (â (â â ))²)³) - â ((1 + 0) ³)] =

= (Π / 6) [â ((1 + 4 â â) ³) - 1]

We then discovered how good the surface area of the glans:

A_Ω â = (Ï / 6) [â ((1 + 4 â â) ³) - 1]

The total area of the surface of the penis will therefore be the sum of the surface area of the trunk and the surface area of the glans

A: = + A_Ω A_Ω â â = 2ÏR â â + (Ï / 6) [â ((1 + 4 â â) ³) - 1]

This final formula which we have just obtained or

A = 2ÏR â â + (Ï / 6) [â ((1 + 4 â â) ³) - 1]

is the formula to calculate the area of a penis

Now I do have a question: when do we go from theory to practice? : P

Please doublecheck my physics work on this problem?
Q. I think I got this one right, just want to doublecheck is all. Thanks in advance!

A plane is flying in a loop to simulate weightlessness for a brief instant. If the speed is 215m/s, what is the radius of the circle?

I have since v = sqrt rg where v is velocity, r is the radius, and g is gravity, that it comes out to (215^2)/9.98 = 4631.7635m

Did I do this correctly? If not, please explain what I did wrong and get me on the right track. Thanks!

A. If the formula is correct, your calculation is correct but you may consider taking the value of g as 9.8 m/sec^2 instead of 9.98

How do you make Google SketchUp files viewable for people without SketchUp?

Q. I want to email a viewable 3D file (sketchup) to someone who is unwilling to download google sketchup. Is there an applet of some sort that I could use to post it? Or a file format that could read a 3D file?
I've taken screen shots, but I want to be able to send it as a viewable 3D file.

A. the only thing you can do is take a screenshot or you could try to save the file as a .jpg

Can I import ProDesktop Models into Google Sketchup?
Q. I prefer ProDesktop but the course will only accept Sketchup files, So wondering if i could import a model from prodesktop then save it as a sketchup file.

A. You may need to export the model as a .OBJ file (Wavefront Object) before importing it into any other 3D package. Most software supports .OBJ files in my experience.

How can I edit and manipulate google sketchup files?
Q. I want to use google sketchup to make a model of my neighborhood as detailed as I can. I want to even put the addresses of buildings and street signs, but I would like to do it using programming like python or c++. I like creating models in my spare time, but as my models are growing larger, I see more value in having certain things automatically placed so I can make sure they are uniform. Has anyone tried this before?

A. you should try photosculpt or www.photo-to-3d.com

Can you take a photo of your home and alter things like paint color, furniture etc?

Q. I'm really interested in redesigning my space with wallpaper, paint and furniture before I go ahead and purchase these things. However, I'd love to be able to design it online sort of like those 3d designs they have on tv shows so I could get a feel of what it would look like. Anyone know of a site like that?

A. Greetings!

Several branded paint companies have "color tools" that help with selection.
Although I'm not endorsing one brand over the other I have offered a link to Sherwin Williams.
They offer a phone application to help with choosing paint colors.
Better Homes and Gardens has a similar application as do other name brand paint mfg. companies.

What is the best laptop for a online college student?
Q. I really am looking into the HP mini 110 by that artist with the 3d design and it seems like it would be simple enough for me just need internet and word. However I want to make sure that would be the best for me. I go to school on line and am a stay at home mom. So I want something small so I can go to my room and have some alone time when doing my work. Do you think this computer would be good for me?

A. Gateway $400

Intel Pentium Dual-Core

Trust me, if you are going to college, you would want something more powerful than a netbook.

How can i make a massive online multiplayer 3D game like runescape?
Q. how can i make a massive online multiplayer 3D game? i need something easy to use it can be online or it can be PC software i just want to create and put on the web.

A. if you would like to design MMORPGs i suggest you start by learning HTML, its a coding language that can be used to make web based applications, you can find a step by step learning guide for many coding languages at www.w3schools.com. runescape is coded in jave, but youll need HTML, which is the building blocks of all net languages i know, to start you off (java's also on there).

you can also find "MMORPG creators" online. i have heard these reveiwd and i can tell you they are far from able to make something of runescaps calibre.

Im affraid to say however that your sights are a little high. runescape has a team of many hundred people working its offices. if you seriousley are aiming to start this career path i suggest you set the sight lower, start with less complicated games and good luck.

employer taxes?

Q. help here please people,as an employer your suppose to match fica and medi-cad 7.65 percent, also futa at roughly 8 percent for employees.are there any others that i,m missing ,thanks

A. FUTA taxes are 6.2% for the first $7,000 in employee gross wages. If you pay state unemployment on a timely basis this percentage drops by up to 5.4%. State unemployment rates vary by state.

FICA taxes are 6.2% for social security and 1.45% for medicare for the employer.

You are also liable for any state taxes that are taken out of your employees checks, and workers compensation payments. Some states also have disability payments as well. Again, depends on the state.

how come i get less on my tax return that was deducted?
Q. my total amount deducted from cads w/h, ca w/h, ss tax, fed taz and medi w/h was 529.04 but it says my tax return is only gonna be 162. does anyone have any idea why im not getting the full 529? thanks to all the helpful answers :)

A. Well, because you actually have to pay taxes. Why do you think you would get. 100% refund. Even if you did, it would not include FICA and such.

What is the most popular Architectural CAD Package used by Architects?
Q. I have been an Engineering Designer for 30 years, and have used Catia for the last 18 years. Now though I am looking for a change of career.

What major can I select that will allow me to get a career in drawing that will be financially beneficial?
Q. I am in my 2nd year of College and will have to declare a major soon. I honestly don't know what I want to do. I really dislike Math, and consider English boring. Since I was a kid I have always wanted to do something that involves drawing, and I still want to have a career involving drawing but I just don't what. If I just get a diploma in art, then what can I do with it?

I consider myself to be skilled in drawing, but I can't find a career would be finiancially beneficial. I would like to do something with drawing related to videogames or sports. What major should I choose that would lead me to a career where knowing how to draw is necessary? I don't want to be an architect by the way, and the whole computer aspect of graphic design is kinda offputting, but if I could use graphic design with video games or sports I would consider it. Basically, I want a major that will let me get a career in drawing that will be financially beneficial.
I have taken a couple of classes in High School and am currently in an Intro to Drawing class in college.
I specialize in traditional drawing.

A. What kind of drawing? You don't mention if you've taken any art courses.

Architectural and engineering drawings are now all pretty much CAD. This is not so much drawing as using computer software.

How do you find the angle in a triangle within an octagon?

Q. I'm confused by this. They want me to find one of angles of a triangle which has all three of its vertices at different vertices in the octagon. None of them go outside the octagon. How should I figure this out?

A. I cannot offer a specific answer, because there are many ways to inscribe a triangle in an octagon. For that matter, there are many octagons.

Are we discussing a regular octagon? If so, then it can be inscribed in a circle, and each side is a chord subtending a central angle of 45°. Suppose that each vertex of the triangle is also a vertex of the octagon. Then any angle of the triangle is also inscribed in the circle. The measure of the inscribed angle is half the corresponding central angle. If an angle intercepts one side of the octagon, then it is 22.5°. Multiply 22.5° by the number of octagon sides intercepted by the angle.

A tangent-tangent angle intercepts two arcs that measure 164 and 196. What is the measure of the tangent-tange?
Q. A tangent-tangent angle intercepts two arcs that measure 164 and 196. What is the measure of the tangent-tange?

Type in the correct Units, too.

A. The arcs are apparently in degrees (since they add to 360).

There's a geometric theorem that says that the measure of the angle you're asking about is equal to half the absolute value of the difference between the intercepted arcs. So

mâ Î¸ = ½ |196° - 164°| = 16°

How would you Calculate an Arc Length Intercepted by a Rectanlge?
Q. If an arc of a circle were intercepted by a rectangle, lets say, 5 feet wide, how would you calculate the arc measure. Explain.

A. You have not given enough informayion. What is the radius? or the length of the rectangle?

Let's say the radius = r
This means that half of the diagonal of the rectangle = r.
Now, you can find the arc length of a circle using arc = rθ where θ=angle in radians.

Also, a chord length can be found using the formula chord = 2r sin(θ/2)
so given 2rsin(θ/2) = 5 and arc = rθ

Put the 2 together and you can work it out.

θ = arcsin(5/(2r))
so
arc length = r * arcsin (5 / (2r))
(5 was your rectangle width)

if rectangle width = w
arc length = r * arcsin (w / (2r))

Note:
If you don't have the radius, but you have the other dimention of the rectangle (lets call it b for breadth)
Then
w² + b² = (2r)²
2r = â(w² + b²)

so

arc length = â(w² + b²)/2 * arcsin (w /â(w² + b²) )

Do I have to be good in art to pursue interior designing as a career?

Q. I suck at drawing, painting, sculpture, print-making, sketching or anything to do with art. But I'm very interested in interior designing. I like to makeover rooms in my head and think about what an ideal house would look like. Will my handicap in art keep me from being successful in the interior designing field?
And also, what all qualifications do you need to get into interior designing? Can you recommend some college and high school courses I can take?
I've just finished my sophomore year in high school, and I've started thinking about my future. I'm a straight-A student, but I'm not really interested in medicine, engineering, IT or other "scholarly" stuff like that. My talent in the art room is limited, but I'm very creative. (I'm also good at creative writing such as short stories and poems etc.) So, yeah, I'm creative; I can think out of the box. And I'm very interested in interior designing.
Well, those are the facts. I would love some good advice on this subject.

A. Hi, I think as long as you have an eye, thats what matters. I never went to school for design, but I had great training under a designer. I can't sketch or do CAD, but I can do a room on graph paper. You will need to be decent at math and be able to measure properly. You will need to understand fabrics and other materials and their uses and drawbacks. Passion and talent in design is more important than being a typical artist. Your rooms are your art, and as long as you can pull them together to make you and the client happy, that's all that matters. .
p.s. most designers I've met are crazy (I am the exception) and very difficult to work for. If you can learn from someone with great talent, hang in there as long as you can and soak up all of their knowledge. I would start looking at local designers whose work you admire and start talking to them now. When you are ready they might be happy to mentor you. Good Luck

Q. I'm doing a research paper for school and i would like to know what it takes to become a videogame designer and how you make the games.

A. Most of what i know is about the actual charactor and setting design. My brouther and a friend of mine are both going to school for graphic design My brouther is doing his classes on line and has already sold items he's made to Everquest. My freind is going to a regular Colledge.EA sports is footing part of the bill. My brouther uses atleast 2 programs that i know of one called Poser and the other Ryno. also i suggest checking out the "making of" of some of the CG cartoons(if you don't have a dvd player some time you can find clips on the internet)...the prosess is simular. computer graphics is anouther great class. some times CAD(Compuer Aided Design) helps as well
most of the skills you need are Computers, math, art and some science (the "making of's" on the movies would explain why science)having the artistic talent i would say is the most important.
they plot out the game, where things go (kind of like a map)if its designed around a movie they get picure and voice recordings of the actors. they make scetches of the charactors and backgrounds. use clay models and scan them. the animators design everything and put it together. and then they do test runs of the games and .fix any bugs they find. and Yes they have people whos jobs are to sit around playing video games ,but they're trained to spot the bugs and ways to fix them..mean while theres people working on advertizing the games and perfecting sound effects...
If you go to some game compny sites like EA or Atari(playstaion, nintendo, etc.) they usually have a contact us link you could probably ask them and get more details just say:hello my name is... im doing a report on.... and i was wondering if you could answer a few questions then ask away some willl answer some won't so if you decide to do it write to a bunch( who knows you could make a connection for a scolarship)
emails from an actuall game companys would be a great addition for a report (teachers love extra stuff like that)if you have to do a presentation any pictures you'd be able to find on their site or that they could send you would be a boost to expesoly if they'll send you step by step pics of the prosess.I'll try to get my brother to come on here and fill you in a little as well....
I hope i have helped

What software do Interior Desingers use?

Q. Like when they are drawing a room and designing its interior... what software is used for that?

A. InteriCad...we use that at the office. Then to enhance the rendering part, we use photoshop.

I'm 15, and hope to get a job as an Architect after college, are my blueprints any good?
Q. Hi, I am 15, and in the 9th grade. I hope to go to college after high school, to become an Architect in Residential Home Design. When I was young, I taught myself how to design blueprints on the computer using Architect Design Software. Next year in 10th grade I selected an AutoCad course. These blueprints are not of any specific house. I was bored in class, and pulled out a piece of paper and started sketching the Blueprints, right from my head. When I got home I designed it on my designing software. Anyways, I was hoping to get your input on a design I just finished about an hour ago. Any comments/suggestions will be great.

3D Rendered image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8572830325/

Ground Floor Blueprints: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8573921054/in/photostream/

Second Floor Blueprints: http://www.flickr.com/photos/91121041@N03/8572829825/in/photostream/

A. The only part I would question as a carpenter would be that walk in closet on the first floor. Man you'd have to build a much harder roof (Broken hip, valley and a little hipped roof) just to add that closet.

Which would not be cost effective when that room is pretty big anyways and has no real purpose other than a lounge room or study. You could probably get away with adding a book case or something which is the same width as the closet along the left wall or along the wall of that small bed room.

If you would have designed a bed room with a double doors opening onto a balcony, I could understand the extra effort to build such a roof, but not for a closet. On that plan if you really wanted to add that feature into the roof, that roof projection should been in the larger bed room so as to make the floor space bigger in the smaller bed room, IMO

Apart from that I would give you 9.2 out of 10.

What is the best home design software?
Q. I run a home improvement business and am looking to purchase a software that will design mostly bathrooms and screen-rooms/sun-rooms. Looking for software that looks the most realistic for the customer and fairly simple to use. Thank you

A. you need a 3D simulators i think
you can use 3Dmax or Blender which blender is free and good

How can you calculate the length of day in hours given the noon sun angle?

Q. For example, i know that the latitude is 30 degrees N. and the noon sun angle is 60 degrees on March 21; however i do not know how to calculate the length of day in hours given this information.

A. Consider the sun's position as a great circle in the sky. You know that a full circle take 24 hours. Given the maximum angle, how much of the circle's circumference is exposed above the horizon? This is a problem involving a chord of the circle. Can you now picture enough to solve the problem? You're given the elevation from the midpoint of the chord to the farthest point of the nearer arc; what angle does that arc subtend from the center of the circle?

A convex octagon is inscribed in a circle and has four consecutive sides of length 3 and four consecutive?
Q. A convex octagon is inscribed in a circle and has four consecutive sides of length 3 and four consecutive sides of length 2. Find its area in the form r+s*sqrt(t), where r,s, and t are integers.

A. Suppose that 2a is the measure of the arc whose chord is length 2, and 2b is the measure of the arc whose chord is length 3. Suppose r is the radius of the circle. We have
.. r*sin(a) = 2/2
.. r*sin(b) = 3/2
We also know that 2a+2b = 90°, so a+b = 45°. (It makes no difference whether the sides of the same measure are consecutive. They can be rearranged so they alternate with sides of the other measure.)

We can use these equations to calculate the cotangent of the angle a.
.. sin(45°-a)/sin(a) = 3/2 = (cos(a)/â2 - sin(a)/â2)/sin(a) = cot(a)/â2 - 1/â2
.. cot(a) = (3+â2)/â2
From above, we know that
.. r = csc(a) = â(1+cot(a)^2) = â(13/2 + 3â2)

Any of a variety of methods can be used to find the area given r. One I tried was Heron's formula for the area of a triangle given its side lengths. This gives
.. (octagon area) = 4â(r^2-1) + 3â(4r^2-9)
Substituting the above value of r into this equation, we get
.. (octagon area) = 4â(11/2 + 3â2) + 3â(17 + 12â2)

I used a math tool (see source list) to simplify this to
.. (octagon area) = 13 + 12â2

So, {r, s, t} = {13, 12, 2}.

How to calculate a section of a circle?
Q. I have two variable lines crossing each other at a point. I need to draw a section of a circle of known diameter so that it rounds the intersection. I can't figure out the math and trigonometry needed. Could you help? No, it is not a homework, I am 63 years old :-) and I try to trace with Flash ActionScript the route of a ship turning at a given turn rate on a predefined route. I need to calculate the start and end points where the circle is tangent to the two lines. Thanks in advance.

A. I don't think I've understood properly what you are trying to ask. I guess you want to calculate the length of the arc of a circle of known radius(say R) between the points where these two lines(passing through your fixed point, i.e., P) touch it. If that is so, then you just need to calculate the angle that these lines make at the point P, say that angle is found to be $. Since tangents make an angle of 90 degrees with the line joining centre to the point of contact, and the sum of angles of a quadrilateral(here we will consider the quadrilateral having vertices the two points of contact of these tangent lines, the centre of the circle, and the point P) is 360 degrees, the angle subtended by that arc(whose length we are calculating) on the centre of the circle is (180 - $) degrees. Since circumference of the whole circle is 2.pi.R, the length of this arc will be 2.pi.R.(180 - $)/360

But I have a feeling that I misunderstood your question. If that is the case please edit, and clarify.

How can I set up my ebay account to notify me when a certain item is listed?

Q. I'm looking for a particular type of software called VectorWorks, which is for CAD. There is no listing currently on ebay but I would like to be notified when someone does list it in the future.

A. First, sign in to your account. You don't need to be signed in to do a search, but you do need to be signed in to get alerts.

Next, do a search for the item you want. If there are currently some items matching that description, then click "Save this search". When you do that, a popup will give you the option to receive email alerts when new items are listed.

If there are no items matching that description, you can still save your search. However, eBay may try to auto-correct your search terms if they think you misspelled something. If you see an auto-correction, there will be a link that says "Return to original search". Then you can save your search as above.

Where can I find a list of foreclosures without paying some website?
Q. I am looking to find lists of bank owned foreclosures in California, but I do not want to pay some website $50 to do a search for me. I know B of A has a search, but there are only a couple of listings. Does anyone know how I can get a list of foreclosures in California without having to pay anything?

Thanks in advance!

A. Call a title company in your area that does foreclosures or HUD deals they can get information before the houses go into foreclosure most of the time on the house that are going up for bid first. Here is a site that you can look at also
http://www.foreclosure.com/state/ca.html Find the property that you want and then you can find the rest of the information on tax site for that county, go to google and type the county name then CAD this will give a wealth of information on the property.

Q. I used to have a mole that was somewhat shaped like a heart. But now that spot is being filled so now the mole looks more like a circle/oval. Is a possible for a part of a mole to go from lightish to dark(matching the rest of the mole) in a month with out it being a problem?
Actually, looking at it again. It looks either the same, or even slightly smaller.

How do I figure this geometry question out? Its about inscribed angles.?

Q. I have a geometry question that Im completely lost on! Its about inscribed angles but more specifically, its a quadrilateral in a circle. Its asking me to find the measure of angle B. Arc AB equals 92 and Arc BC equals 80. Help?

A. arc BC = 360-(92+80) = 188
so since an inscribed angle equals
half of its intercepted arc
then angle B=94

How to solve for inscribed angles?
Q. Angle C is an inscribed angle of circle P. Angle C measures (16x â 1)° and arc AB measures (20x + 10)°. Find x.

A. (20x + 10)/2 = 16x - 1
10x + 5 = 16x - 1
6x = 6
x = 1

I hope this helps!

angle difference when seen in a circle and on a straight plane?
Q. An inscribed angle in a circle when measured with specific equipment turns out to be 100 degrees. That same angle when measured on a straight plane with specific equipment turns out to be 95 degrees. Why is there this difference?

Thanks beforehand

A. the circle lies on a different plane.

Worth to read?

Q. Can you people recommend me good Java blogs or well written articles. Maybe even post your whole Java bookmark collection :D

I am interested in performance, Swing, Hibernate, jBoss, log4j, Derby, generics, patterns, cool code, Eclipse templates and plugins, tutorial to new features, good OOP design.

And please do not post a site link, saying something good can be found here, but page link to that sweetness :D
I agree that Bruce Eckel's book is very good and has been for years. I guess everybody who use Java have read it :D
Btw, one link to second book you recommended would be http://books.google.ee/books?hl=et&id=LjJcCnNf92kC&dq=Headfirst+Design+Patterns&printsec=frontcover&source=web&ots=_9ZXbCj2sX&sig=jABxQ01QxcZ61ZsQ71E1hUOq8fo#PPA407,M1

A. Well, there is a free e-book online called "Thinking in Java" written by Bruce Eckel. (http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/). In my honest opinion it is the best, most comprehensive book you can read in order to learn Java.

The best book for OOP design (again in my humble opinion) is called "Headfirst Design Patterns" which has a very hands-on approach and really gets you into the "mind set" for design using patterns.

save & load in CATIA v6?

Q. does anyone use catia v6? How do I save in v6?! the local save button is not available anytime, and with propagate button, i guess i save my work. but how do i open it again?!?
I've made a piston. not whole one. i made only the cylindrical part, aka yes, the piston. doesn't matter, (i named it klip, because I'm Croatian...) I propagated the representation and the product, restarted catia, and this shows http://img413.imageshack.us/my.php?image=16415439ll7.jpg
ok, (the rest of representations are failed attempts also) i double click on klip, and this shows http://img294.imageshack.us/my.php?image=96850497tw6.jpg a 3D model of a folder tree, it can't be more stupid, i clicked on everything, double click, triple click, and everything i click, absolutely nothing happens, if there is a button called "MURDER CATIA" I'd click it!!! It's just... i can't open files, and i saving can't be more stupid (propagate=save, right??).

this catia v6 i literately driving me insane!

please help me. how do i properly save and load/open files?
on v5 it was great. click here, click there, and you got it all

please help.
THANK YOU

A. sorry i haven't worked with V6 , but thats funny how they made the tree, 3d!

What is the difference between CATIA Lite and CATIA V4/V5/V6?

Good luck!

Finite Element Analysis and Simulation software.?
Q. Im a 2nd year mechanical engineering student. I have come across 3 FEA/FEM and simulation softwares, and I am sure there are more. The three i have come across are FEA workbench in catia v6, ansys 14 and abaqus. Im not sure which one to learn. I would like to learn a software that is useful in terms of functionality, and one that will benefit me the most in industry (ie whats most used in industry/ what employers are looking for). I will primarily be focusing on static analysis, but other functionality such as dynamic, electromagnetic, thermo, and various simulations are important as i want a complete software package to learn. Also if you recommend Ansys, can you please tell me whether to learn Ansys workbench, or Ansys mechanical ADPL, as ive heard the latter is more useful in functionality, but I am not too sure.

Furthermore, if you can provide me with some sites to help me learn the software you recommend, then that will be great.

Thank you in advance.

A. Of the three you listed, ANSYS and Abaqus are the most useful. Catia is only useful for CAD. which one you use is mostly dependent on your goal. ANSYS can pretty much do it all, but Abaqus is best for purely mechanical applications.

I personally recommend ANSYS. APDL is a programming language, not a separate software package. that being said, do not use workbench. it is too generic and not as powerful. you really need to learn the various ANSYS software packages separately like FLUENT and the other (sorry cant remember their names, I don't use them often..) packages for structural and multicomponent simulations. the good news is that they are all interrelated and you can export and import projects between them. here's the ANSYS support website (http://www.ansys.com/Resource+Library) which has tutorials and whatnot...

2008 NISSAN A

A. I would get the Yukon or Suburban. Those things run forever.

What is the best way to keep a laptop battery good and keep a good charge?
Q. I have some older laptops that I collect and since they sit on display all the time and I don't use them I would assume that they will loose there charge. To keep them good is it best to always keep them charged or to drain them completely and leave them that way?

A. I agree with iiFii =] because most older laptops would probably have Nichol-Cadmium (ni-cad) batteries. If you have any with a Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, it is best to remove the battery and store it in cold place such as a refrigerator.

What do I need to set up a laptop to display on a second monitor?
Q. I work with CAD software programs and need two work areas: one displayed on my laptop, and the other on a separate monitor.

I am running an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and the monitor is an HP flat screen.

What do I need to make this work?

A. get a vga cable and hook up from laptop to monitor
if it has dvi in and out then dvi same with hdmi but easiest way is vga
1 go to start
2 go to control panel
3 new view appearence and settings then display
3 or old style go to display
4 go to settings
5 click on number 2 blue screen
6 click enable
7 click apply

then just drag one of your workings to the monitor

gl and if you restart the laptop with cable out it will revert back to normal settings

Is there any easier method to convert the 2D floor plan to 3D plan to make a virtual tour of the building?

Q. I wish to know, Any specific method or software available online. And can you please tell me How many hours it will take to convert a 2D floor plan to 3D virtual tour plan for an ordinary apartment.

A. Download Google Sketch Up, which is free of charge. To create an apartment in 3D, it will take you perhaps an hour, including the time to get coffee twice.

What is a 3d desgin program better than google sketchup( im thinking there are millions)?
Q. google sketch up gives me massive random errors and the blue screen of death, it is also laggy on my new gaming computer (wtf?) i need something as easy to use thats actually good

A. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Blender 3d is a good free 3d modeling/animation program.

What's a good program to draw 3d stuff?
Q. Like no google sketch up. I want something easy so I could like design a room with like walls and furniture and etc.

A. As Matt said, CAD and alot of Autodesk programs are fantastic, they are expensive, but are free for students!!!

how to convert illustrator to coral draw to be able to use at the vinyl cutters?

Q.

A. Illustrator can save out in a variety of file formats. I suggest Illustrator .ai version 8. According to Wiki, corelDraw supports the following files
.ai, .cdr, .ps, .eps, .pdf, .svg, .dxf

the only difficulty I foresee is corelDraw is Windows and fonts can be a big time problem coming from a Mac illustrator exported file.

If that proves to be the case, the fonts. In Illustrator get your artwork 1:1 to final size, Select All... then Outline Text and save a copy.

How can one machine, or cut and shape small (pen ink) sizes of metal cheaply?
Q. I was looking to make something similar like this...
http://media.naplesnews.com/media/img/photos/2012/09/01/634811_t607.JPG
Of course it would be an individual finger. Half of a pointer finger on my fathers right hand to be exact. I have a fair amount of tools as a plumber and small mechanic, however I don't have a shop and this would be a one-time deal. If you look closely the peices making up a finger are actually relatively simple. I mean, thin aluminum like a soda can could probably be cut up into a basic shape, and i have a drill bit set small enough to make some of those holes. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I contacted the original person, and they quoted me about 4,000 dollars for a half finger, and thats a bit crazy if you ask me, for something purely mechanical.

A. You could look for a company that does laser cutting. I just had some quite intricate panels cut from 2mm aluminium. Including laser etching markings on them they were £20 ($30) each and they look beautuful.

You will have to do the design work, because that's what costs. They will need a drawing of all the parts to work from, ideally in Autocad format (dwg or dxf) but they will probably be able to convert from pdf, gif, etc. And don't forget to tell them the scale!

For solid parts like the fingertips look at materials called Polymorph, a plastic which is mouldable in hot water, and Sugru, which is an air curing silicone putty.

The hand in the link looks like it has some sort of system to amplify the small movement of the finger stumps into a large movement of the tips, and looking at the thinness of the parts they are probably titanium or something, so it doesn't surprise me that it's expensive.

Is there software which can convert PDF to AutoCAD including the text?
Q. PDF to AutoCAD software translators I've tried do not convert the annotations (text and numbers) to true AutoCAD text.
I've tried AutoDWG, AnyDWG, etc. and they make good geometry translation. However, the texts are all exploded into primitives (lines, arcs, plines, etc.). I was hoping for some kind of OCR built-in which also translates the PDF texts into AutoCAD texts which can be edited.

A. Yes... You can...

what small screen laptop is best for a heavy hulu user and online video watching?

Q.

A. Core i-3, better than Core 2 Duo
Core i-5, better than Core i-3 in interactive social networking & creating home videos
Core i-7, better than Core i-5 in designing your own website

You don't care about the video card w/c fits your budget just fine. If a laptop has a dedicated video card, the price goes up (this is indicated by A LOGO STICKER for NVIDIA or ATI MOBILITY RADEON on the computer surface is just below the keyboard. But if you can find a good deal with at least 256MB dedicated video card, it will be better for watching your DVDs.
Just make sure that the laptop has AT LEAST 2GB DDR2 RAM modules in it so that it will always ran smoothly & not freeze up on you (HIGHER IS BETTER; DDR3 & DDR5 are faster & newer types of memory modules that came out).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & you're able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's AS EFFICIENT AS an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo featuring power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo is like having 2 motors running the computer each independent of the other w/c means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core, Core i-3, Core i-5 & Core i-7 are all very much faster & better than an Intel: DUAL CORE, PENTIUM, CELERON, ATOM & their more affordable AMD counterparts.
In your case, get one with a Core 2 Duo and not a Pentium, Celeron or Atom if you can. Just make sure you have AT LEAST 2GHz of speed on your processor so that will be able to appreciate your laptop's fast response and performance.
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should be at least 320GB.
For the battery life to last longer, you need more cells into it. So if you can get a Dell from www.Dell.com with the HIGHER CAPACITY 6 CELL BATTERY, do so. The ordinary one doesn't last long.
8 cells, 9 cells & 12 cell batteries means they can last longer.
The average laptop LCD screen size is 15.4", and since you want something smaller than that w/ these 3 features I just shed some light on, expect the price to go higher (ex. for 13.3" & 14.1" LCD screens).

For other ladies, looking for portable 14" laptops, try the Core i-5 Toshiba Satellite M645-S4050 or Satellite E205-S1980 from BestBuy, both comes with 512MB Class 3 NVIDIA GeForce 310M dedicated graphics card for a little bit of gaming like the SIMS 3.

FOR the best PRICEs, go to Fry's Electronics, MicroCenter, CostCo & BestBuy's web sites for updates & COMPARISON. There are a lot of options & different combinations if you want to customize your own laptop, just STICK TO THE ESSENTIALS first.
The MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook I got w/ the Intel® Core⢠i-7 for playing my DesignCAD software and playing Diablo III, retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.

One aspect to consider that produces heat is battery charging. Basically, as you charge up a battery, it heats up because current runs through it. Add that to the humidity and temperature of the location, it may feel even hotter than usual. FYI: I always tell my customers, a laptop's battery is similar to a cell phone's. You charge it when it's depleted & you unplug the adapter when it is already fully charge (this will prevent the battery from getting overcharged & extend the life of the battery). So for less hassle, I always advice my customers to just remove the battery if they plan to use the computer for long hours straight (more than 1 hour) and just run it on AC power alone so as not to overcharge it & shorten the battery life. That is if there is an available outlet for you to plug in your charger at Starbucks, if not, then you really need the battery.

I have an ASUS k60ij laptop I called the company and they said I could upgrade the graphics card but best buy ?
Q. So should I just bring it to best buy and see what they say

A. Are you sure you talked to the Tech Expert from ASUS? Was this the no. you called, ASUS Tech Experts hotline number (1-888-678-3688)?
He must've been a newbie to keep your hopes up. Your laptop has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M which is like free that's why it is integrated into the motherboard.
click here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-K60IJ-RBLX05.23461.0.html

The only upgradable parts of a laptop is the RAM if it is supported by the motherboard; increasing the Hard Drive capacity if you can find one that is compatible w/ your system; & having a new fan put in to replace the old one.
For the Processor, good luck, if you can find one that is compatible with the chipset & other components of your system w/ the right pins to fit into your mother board. Likewise with your integrated graphics card which is soldered to the motherboard.
Unlike desktop computers which are upgradeable, for laptops, what you bought is strictly what you get. You can try looking for cheap shops, but you'll end up paying more in the long run.

My suggestion, just save up your money for now & then when you have saved up, buy one on Black Friday or on Christmas that you wont need to upgrade in the long run.

Playing for long hours? Get a COOLER MASTER U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Cool thing about it is, you can position the fans on the right spot for better ventialation. When travelling, detach the easily detacheable dual fan, then use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for $15, 48% cheaper than the regular $25 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).

If you're a lil' bit low on budget, get the next best thing. The msi GE620-021 15.6" Gaming Notebook also features a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM & 8GB DDR3 RAM, just 640GB HDD, but only a Class 2, 1GB NVIDIA GT540M dedicated graphics card that can also handle DirectX 11 effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6539123).
The ASUS N53SV-XR1 is $150 cheaper, but comes w/ ONLY 4GB of memory.

Additional info, read on:
I used to work for a big name computer company & usually received a lot of call regarding battery issues.
A brand new computer's battery comes w/ a Standard 1yr Limited Warranty w/c means the expected life time of battery is only 1 year. Same thing goes for the charger.
So, if you don't know how to take care of it, it will die out on you sooner than than expected.

ONLY USE THE BATTERY FOR PORTABILITY, if you're on a trip, at McDonalds or Starbucks.
If your not after its portability, you can use it just plugged into the wall socket all the time.

For chargers, make sure you don't stretch out the cable too much that the one by the power jack that you plug into the side of the computer gets bent. Make sure this part is always straight or else the copper wires inside will break & soon you'll have the problem of the charger not working anymore like what happened to some of my callers.

looking for a right laptop key for my sony vaio pcg-71314l?
Q. I cant seem to find a model listed for it on all these web site?
Does anyone know where to go or what else it might be called other than PCG-71314L

A. I'm guessing you have the same model of laptop & you want to get him the same thing. Well, the model series had been discontinued by Sony already.
click here: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCatalog?storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=10551&in_dim_search=&keyword=PCG-71314L&x=16&y=13
Is he in high school going to college soon? You can get him a gaming computer.
Core i-3, better than Core 2 Duo
Core i-5, better than Core i-3
Core i-7, better than Core i-5

How do I insert pages of a PDF file into a Word document?

Q. I'm doing a lesson plan for something and had to photocopy papers and have them be scanned and put on my flash drive. When I uploaded them to my computer, they were in a PDF file (Adobe). How can I put these pages into the document exactly how they look? I tried copy and paste, but that doesn't work because of the page margins.

A. To produce a highres 300dpi version of a pdf page, I would recommend importing the pdf file into Photoshop or Illustrator and save each page as a jpg or bmp - however, those cost (lots of) money. A free solution would be to install ghostscript and irfanview, open the properties/settings in irfanview, and change the postscript options to 300 dpi. When you view a pdf file in Irfanview, the file will be rasterized to a 300 dpi bitmap file! Next, save the file in a Word compatible format, such as jpg.

ghostscript:
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/index.ht...

irfanview:
http://www.irfanview.com/

Steps:
1 - install ghostscript
2 - install irfanview
3 - download the plugins for irfanview and install those: http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/plugins/ir...
4 - start irfanview
5 - choose OPTIONS-->PROPERTIES/SETTINGS in the menu
6 - click POSTSCRIPT OPTIONS
7 - set the required paper size, and change the resolution to 300 dpi
8 - open the pdf file.
8a - optional: drag a selection around part you would like to crop, and hit <ctrl><y>
9 - save the high-res image file as a jpg or bmp. (bmp retains sharpness of cad drawings much better)
10 - repeat for each page and import in word.

This method works like a charm and does not require you to buy any software. What's more, you decide on the resolution.

Do be aware, though, that they will not be editable in Word, since they were converted to images when you photocopied/scanned them. It is possible to extract the text and layout and convert those to Word again, but you will need either ReadIris or Omnipage - both of which cost money. A free option to get at least the text extracted may already be installed on your computer (if you have Office installed, that is):

Good luck.

Where can i find free tutorials for autocad, specifically using it to draw architectural plans?
Q. A pdf document would be preferred rather than video tutorials, both would be better! Should i just start with the tutorials on autodesk? or can i skip straight to the architectural stuff?
i am new to autocad but have a bit of experience using maya
by the way i am a mac user!

A. I have researched some websites for you to learn autocad for free and also the pdf file which tells about architectural drawings.

What are some hobbies or activites that you can use a computer for?
Q. EX. Wrestling Coach:
You can...
1.Prepare Documents
2.Maintain Records
3.E-mail (contact other coaches)
4. Recruting (update websites for college coaches)

Don't say video games, IM, Email etc becuase those are the wrong answers. Also don't say graphic design because that is not a hobby.

A. Model Railroading... I use my computer for:

1) Research: Looking for images of locomotives, rail-cars, bridges, buildings, etc. I also use Google Earth to help with how to lay-out certain features like "yards".

2) Design: there are a number of software programs that let you "plan" your layout (model railroad) on the computer. You can make your errors and mistakes on the computer... much less expensive that finding that error when you've actually laid track !!

3) Construction: I used Auto-Cad programs and Adobe Photo-shop to convert photos of buildings, bridges, and accessories into PLANS that I can then scale and use to construct all the hundreds of buildings on my layout.

4) Operations: I have a DCC (Digital Cab Control) system that I have connected to my computer.. it allows me to plan routes, set switches, and "dispatch" my trains. It also controls all the signals and lights on my layout... I run a "fast-clock" that makes time move 3 times as fast as normal, and the "Sun" rises and sets in the room and the building and street lights turn off and on from computer generated commands.

I ALSO use the computer to "organize" my railroad... from generating "train orders" and and calculating loads... to printing out directions to my friends who come to "work" as train and yard engineers.

I would say that Graphic Design IS a hobby as long as you're not doing it for a CAREER or for pay !!
