What do I need to set up a laptop to display on a second monitor?

Q. I work with CAD software programs and need two work areas: one displayed on my laptop, and the other on a separate monitor.

I am running an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and the monitor is an HP flat screen.

What do I need to make this work?

A. get a vga cable and hook up from laptop to monitor
if it has dvi in and out then dvi same with hdmi but easiest way is vga
1 go to start
2 go to control panel
3 new view appearence and settings then display
3 or old style go to display
4 go to settings
5 click on number 2 blue screen
6 click enable
7 click apply

then just drag one of your workings to the monitor

gl and if you restart the laptop with cable out it will revert back to normal settings

What would be a suitable college laptop for engineering?
Q. I'm planning on entering college in one year. I'd like to major in either Electrical,Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering. I've heard that computer programs like CAD are part of the classes. What would be a good laptop to handle this easily, and perhaps some computer games(COD4) as well. Money is not much of an issue, as I am saving my money, and it's going to be my Birthday,Christmas, and graduation present. And please give me your rationale behind your answer.
Thanks

A. I bought a dell vostro 1500 a year ago with an intel core 2 duo 2.4 GHz proc, 2 GB of RAM, and an 8600 MGT video card (these are the aspects you will want to pay attention to).
For CAD you should mostly be concerned with RAM. 2 GB is enough, but 4GB would be better, and noticeably better. The vid card I listed is good enough to play TF2 and COD WaW

If I were you I'd plan to spend 1k and get something with 4GB of RAM and a decent video card and processor. You should also make sure to get a high res display (1680x1050 in my case). This is really helpful to increase your workspace with CAD, rhino and other similar software.

After answering your question, I would give some advice which is this may not be important. Universities have labs with good machines you can use, and you will probably want to be using them anyways. They will be better or as good as whatever you get, and most of your classmates will be there to hang out with / ask questions of. In your freshmen and senior years you will probably find yourself in these labs all the time.

What to look for when buying my first laptop computer?
Q. I'm going to be getting my first laptop computer soon. I'm in my senior year of high school, about to go to college. I would like some suggestions on different computers based on my needs. In needs to be able to run CAD programs as well as the basic word, excel, and publisher. It should have portability as I will be carrying it around. I also would prefer if it has Windows 8, a decent battery life, and can show color well. What are some good brands and what are other details I should look into before I buy one. I would also appreciate any options that are on the lower end of the price range.

A. Toshiba Shopping Assistance: 800-316-0920 or http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/home.to?utm_expid=1188295-3

Dell http://www.dell.com

15 inch display, Intel i3 good, i5 very good, i7 best processor, 4 to 8 GB ram memory, 500 GB or up hard drive, CD/DVD optical drive, Memory card reader, blue tooth if needed and what ever else you might want installed. Purchase MS Office new boxed install so you have the CD to reinstall it if ever needed,

How do I upgrade my HP software for my internet connection without paying for it?

Q. I moved into my new house and tried to create a new wireless network, but couldn't do it. I called my Internet Provider, they couldn't help, I called the manufacturer of the wireless router and they couldn't help. I called HP and they said I had to upgrade my software for $50 and they could take care of it. How do I upgrade without paying the $50?

A. On my HP running Windows XP (its about 3 years old) there is a link in All Programs - HP - HP update. This is in the UK but I would have thought it would be on any HP machine anywhere.

what software can I use on a mac to create house music tracks?
Q. I want to create my own house, Dirty house and tech house tracks on my mac. What programs are available? I want to be creating my own stuff rather than ripping other peoples music off.

A. Garageband is crap , Albeton live is the industry standard everybody uses it. I have 5 tracks I produced on Beatport under another alias since my buddy is the Dj and he needs all the hype he can get. I'm a tech house/progressive house type of guy so i know what you need.

http://www.ableton.com/live you need to buy it , its a bit pricey but its worth every cent. The illegal download does not work they implemented extra security in the programs code so there is no full working illegal version.

What software program can design an outdoors environment or landscape?
Q. I need a program where i can create hills, houses, roads in 3D. Kind of like the Sims game. It dosnt need to be anything sophisticated. My plan is to create an environment, build a water system on top of a hill and show how it is distributed to a nearby village.

Do you guys know of any program that can help me create something like this??

A. I've used Bryce 5.5 a while ago, it's probably the best free and easy to use application for creating realistic landscapes.

More simple looking but with more features
(for building the water distibutionsystem) you should try Google Sketchup.
It's free and it has almost no learning curve so you can build what you want right away.

Prebuild models are shared for free in the 3d-warehouse, there are thousands of models from almost anything thinkable (piping, dams, watertowers, terrain, houses, roads etc.).

Export function for Google Earth, place your models or complete system in a real existing environment.

Sketchup is also capable of making basic animations.

Investigate the quadrilateral formed by two tangent segments to a circle and the two radii ?

Q. To the points of tangency. State a conjecture. Explain why yout conjecture is true based on the properties of radii and tangents.

A. Conjecture: The two tangent segments are congruent.
Proof: by HL

Find the equation of the circle with radius sqrt2, tangent to the line x+y=3 and having its center on the line?
Q. Find the equation of the circle with radius sqrt2, tangent to the line x+y=3 and having its center on the line y=4x.

2. Find the equation of the circle touching the lines x+2y=4, x+2y=2 and y=2x-5

Please I need your help, I can get these problems. Its for my homework. Any ideas?

A. 1) y = 4x
Take x1 as x-coordinate then y=4x1
Centre = (x1, 4x1)
Perpendicular length from centre (x1, 4x1) to line x+y-3=0 is â2
=> |x1 + 4x1 - 3| / â2 = â2
=> |5x1-3| = 2
=> 5x1-3 = 2 or 5x1 - 3 = -2
=> x1 = 1 or x1 = 1/5

for x1=1 4x1=4 Therefore Centre (1,4)
NOW LETS FIND THE NORMAL TO THE TANGENT TO GET THE POINT ON THE CIRCLE
Normal slope = 1
Normal equation : y-4 = x-1
x-y+3=0
Point of Intersection of Normal and Tangent is (0,3)
Circle Equation : ( x-0)^2 + (y-3) = 2
=>x^2 + y^2 -6y+7=0
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) x+2y=4 ------->(1)
x+2y=2--------->(2)
y=2x-5---------->(3)
x+2y=4, x+2y=2 are parallel lines and distance between them = length of diameter

|4-2|/â5 = 2/â5
Radius = 1/â5
Solve (1) & (3) and (2) & (3)
Mid point of the points you got after solving will lie on the circle
You have radius and point on the circle , find the circle equation.
Good Luck.

What is the distance between a tangent point on a circle and any given point on its circumference?
Q. What is the distance between a tangent point on a circle and any given point on its circumference?
Is there an equation for this?

A. I think you can figure this by:

If x = the angle between the tangent point and the "given point",
and y = the radius of the circle, the distance should be:

Sin x * y *2

why cant i import dwg files into sketchup?

Q. i am trying to import an AutoCAD drawing into sketchup but it doesn't give me an option to import dwg files.

A. Then dwg is not supported in sketchup, you can try saving as a different file type from autocad. I think wings3D supports dwg (not sure)

Where can I get solid models (dwg) for things like batteries and LED lights?
Q. I can only find files that aren't compatible with autodesk. They need to be in dwg because this is the only file type I can open with basic autocad.

A. www.turbosquid.com

Models of just about everything you could ever want.
You can filter search results by file type or application type.
They aren't all free, but some are.

You should be able to import a 3ds model into Autocad.. Unless you're using AutoCAD LT.
If you are using LT you won't be able to open, use, or make any kind of 3D model no matter the format. LT doesn't have 3D capabilities..

Please how do i import a dwg or dxf file into Dialux?
Q. I have tried the import wizard that comes with the program but after going through all the steps and i click finish nothing appears on the screen ...what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance for the help..

A. I have the same problem.
I have been able to export to DXF.

would making an electric motorcycle for senior project a good idea?

Q. My target is $1000

I am planning on buying a rolling chasis of an old enduro bike for about $100-$200. Then i would use the remaining money (about $800) to buy a motor, batteries e.t.c. I have expericence with Audodesk Inventor so any CAD drawings would not be a problem. I also would have access to a auto shop.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A. You didn't mention what are the goals for the senior project or what kind of school/area so it is a little hard to tell if this interesting and exciting project fits the bill.

You also didn't mention how much time you would have available for the project or when it is due. But it does seem as if your interest would carry it to completion regardless of requirements or deadlines.

So it sounds like a great project. If you talk it over with those you would be doing it for and it will satisfy certainly you should go for it.

How do i record guitar on laptop ?
Q. I have an electric-acoustic guitar and i was wondering how do i plug it on my laptop to record a song. Can you help me ? What do i need ?

A. Guitar only - get a USB guitar interface. Guitar and voice, get a USB mic.

http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCG102-Guitar-to-USB-Interface/dp/B000PAPO9W/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1315585726&sr=1-1

What equipment is best for Sound/Singing Voice Recording?
Q. I always do digital recording like digital piano, electric guitar, electric drum etc, which can connect the instruments directly to a recording device e.g. computer, laptop or for better sound quality I would connect it to good audio interface.

But how would you record sound/voice or someone singing at the best quality? I know you need a microphone and there are many different type of them. The question is, for the very best sound quality recording, is it depend on the microphone more or recording device? Or Both?

A. I have used this product and it performs really well I would definitely suggest

CAD U37 USB Studio Condenser Recording Microphone
*Large condenser microphone element for warm, rich recordings
*Cardioid pick-up pattern minimizes background noise and isolates the main sound source
*Smooth, extended frequency response is excellent for singing, speech and instruments
-10dB overload-protection switch minimizes distortion from loud sound sources
*Bass-reduction switch reduces room noise

For a provisional patent, do I need a drawing even though I have a picture of the prototype?

Q. I am applying for my own provisional patent. I have a working prototype. its easy to understand by looking at the prototype's picture and reading the description. do I still need a drawing?

I know how to use auto-cad, solidworks and sketchup, but my invention has some parts with irregular shape. I took a picture of it and traced over a new layer on photoshop to produce the drawings.

A. Sounds like you are ROCKING!

Photos are "OK" for a provisional but not "liked". A provisional is more "lax" than a non-provisional but take a look at this totally sloppy utility patent that "breaks" convention. http://www.google.com/patents?id=_oyYAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA10&dq=hot+yoga+methods&hl=en&sa=X&ei=KXjyTrexLaiyiQLYzuiTDg&ved=0CEgQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=hot%20yoga%20methods&f=false
The purpose of a drawing is to allow one skilled in the art to COMPLETELY understand your inventive idea.

Here is what I tell folks in your situation... Go to your local High School and seek out the Art Teacher or the Drafting Teacher.. Find the BEST KID who can do what you want and give em 30 bucks worth of McDonalds coupons to draw your drawings.

Before you hit the "Submit" button consider the following...

So, you know about the Provisional Patent Application and that it only costs $125 and was designed by Congress to give individual inventors a chance at bringing their inventive ideas to market easily. It is SUPER EASY to do..

To see the top 10 reasons to file a Provisional Patent Application please watch the second video in this blog.
http://www.filepatentapplications.com/blog/

If a provisional patent application looks like the right thing for you to do then take a look at another website that shows EXACTLY how to file one using a video format.
http://provisionalpatentvideo.com/

If you need to know how to get your product sold on TV or to Costco, or Home Depot, or Target and the like then you might also enjoy reading this information by the Ginsu Knife guy! It is pretty cool. He gives you all his contacts and personal email!
http://bit.ly/GinsuKnifeGuy1

Of course you could ALSO just go to the US Patent Office and figure out how to file a patent yourself. Here is the link..
http://www.uspto.gov/patents/process/index.jsp
The flow chart there is pretty nice to give you an idea how to do what you want to do!

Their patent search is hard to use and you need special programs to look at the patents⦠Instead, consider using Google Patent Search!

Here is how you can use Google Patent Search to search for an "Oscillating inertial microbalance"
http://www.google.com/patents?id=M5GRAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA6&dq=Oscillating+inertial+microbalance&hl=en&ei=vrbGTvGeDoXhiAKWpfXxDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

Just type the term you want to search for in the search box. Play with MANY variants of your inventive idea.

Also, for a more global patent search look here:
http://worldwide.espacenet.com/advancedSearch?locale=en_EP

Remember... Patents are MOSTLY "Improvements" on other inventions.. So, while you may see something SIMILAR to your inventive idea it does not mean that you cannot patent your IMPROVEMENT.. Example... A tire is an IMPROVEMENT on a wagon wheel. A radial biased ply tire is an IMPROVEMENT on a non radial biased tire. There are over 10,000 patents on tires... Nearly every single one is an improvement!

And⦠a special gift for you is a sample Non Disclosure (also called an NDA) that you would have folks sign when you show them your inventive idea. You can change it up and use others but if you have NOTHING now it is a very good start written by my lawyer who charged me a TON for it!
http://www.4lowprice.info/images/NDA_GeneralMutual.doc

For EXTRA credit take a look at getting a free website widget here. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING. Just use the FREE widget thing..
http://CBproAds.com/refer.asp?id=50245 It will allow you to put adverts to eBooks on nearly ANY subject. If you had a store that sells horse blankets then you would include a widget that featured an eBook on how to stop horses from biting! You get 50% of whatever book folks buy. Pretty nice!

If you like my answer can you vote on it?

Thanks,

Dave

How to make logic gates symbols in microsoft word?
Q. I'm trying to make XOR sign. Any ideas? Is there some other simple software that will allow me to do this? I don't want to install an entire CAD application, though.

A. 1. In word go to the drawing toolbar most times located at the bootom of the page.

click on Autoshapes>flowcharts

2. In paint using lines, circles and the eraser it can also work.

3. Install microsoft visio all electronic shapes, and much more stuff are built into the program. All you have to do is select it. It has lots more samples than CAD. It can be used by people in lots of different fields.

Check it out on the internet. google it or something Microsoft Visio

How do you make a submittal for construction?
Q. It was part of job description and I am not exactly sure how it gets done and how difficult/tedious it is? Can someone walk me through this? I know it includes shop drawings but do I have to draw them or does an auto-CAD person do that?

A. The contract that your employer has with the client will spell out what is required in the submittal. It might be catalog cut sheets (pages from a catalog) that show the specifications of the material you are proposing to supply, it might be actual samples (say a floor tile or a paint chip), it might be calculations, it might be manufacturer's certification (a statement from the manufacturer), it could be shop drawings (showing the dimensions and design of the product, often designed by an engineer and drafted in CAD by a drafter), or it might be as-built drawings (either a construction print set marked in red with as-built changes, or an electronic version of the same).

In all cases, your task is to create or obtain the required information or sample, package it up, attach a cover letter with information required by the client (e.g., contact number, job name and number, submittal number, date, etc), and mail or deliver it to the client.

What is a good kitchen & bath design magazine subscription?

Q. I am a custom kitchen & bath designer and I was looking for a magazine subscription that would have a lot of good pictures & ideas.

A. house and home or a warehouse magazine but house and home is the best

How can I decorate the house and not pay a fortune?
Q. I just moved into a new house with my husband. We didn't have much in our apartment, and now we need to decorate the house. I like the city feel. You know, reds and blacks. Maybe even some animal print. And also soothing, beiges, and blacks, and reds together (probably doing something like that in our room). What is a store that I can go to and get nice things at a reasonable price, or even order offline? Thanks!
I like the dark reds

A. I subscribe to a couple of high end design magazines, and get inspiration from those. You can find a designer look and then seek out pieces to copy it. Elle Décor is my favorite. I also get catalogs from companies that sell items that match my taste and save those for inspiration too. Some favorites are Williams Sonoma Home, Crate & Barrel, CB2, and Design Within Reach. You can find their websites via Google.

For furniture, Ashley Homestores have great prices. Itâs not stuff that will last forever, but itâs great if youâre someone who changes their look every 5 years or so. Thrift stores are great too. Remember that nearly anything can be painted or recovered. You should shop for shape rather than color.

A really affordable way to get big piece of art is to staple cool fabric to a frame. You can get the frames from art supply stores, or you can find companies that sell kits for this. I am in love with Marimekko fabric, and found this website. http://store.txtlart.com/walhankit1.html What kills me is that Crate & Barrel actually sells some of these very same fabrics pre-hung for a lot more than you can buy the kit and DIY. They will even send you free samples of the fabric so that you can make sure the colors work for you.

We had the same problem when we bought our house a year ago. I still donât consider our house even close to done. Donât feel like you have to get it all together at once. Take your time and find the right pieces.

I am thinking about buying autocad but I want to make sure the plans I get from my contractors are readable?

Q. I am new with autocad so please bare with me. Do you need to have an auto cad file sent to you to view and edit it? Is it possible to open a tif or gif or pdf flie with autocad and make your adjustments and do your take offs? I was also thinking about and autocad lt program as I dont need the who lets build a house thing.
I would appreciate any information you can give. Thank you.

A. We were all newbies at one stage. So there are no dumb questions.

If you are onlly using it to measure then probably LT would be the way to go.

If your components are placed into a drawings as a blocks and you have to count these blocks, to prepare a BOM (bill of materials) you will have to run a Lisp or Vba program that only full blown Autocad would be required to count these blocks. to place a $ value against these components, and these can be exported out to a excel file.

Tiff & gifs can be imported into full blown Autocad but can't be manipulated. With the exception of resizing.

Pdf's can be cracked and imported back into dwg file. but apart from print it off to a full size , and measuring it with a scale ruler.

The only other problems you may encounter if working with dwg files.

The drawing versions.
If you have a autocad 2004 and the drawing was save in 2006 then there will be a problem opening the drawing.
It will open a later version of the drawing but older versions of autocad will not open the newer drawing files.

There is a program available from dwgateway.com that will allow you Convert the drawing to the current version you are using.

The other pet gripe I have is Xref's that go into making up the drawing. They alway forget to send the external reference drawings. That went into making that drawing up..

I hope this has been some help

Does anyone have a Harley Davidson logo for Autocad?
Q. I use auto cad 2007 and solid-works 2008. I am trying to save time from drawing it myself. Any help would be appreciated. it is ok if the image is slightly modified for copyright reasons.

A. I did some searching to see if I could find either a .dwg or .dxf but any of the sites that look even half way promissing are blocked by our IT group here at work... so no luck there for you...

I did just a Harley Davidson Logo search on yahoo and came up with some pretty clean .bmp images that could be pasted into AutoCAD, then using polylines, could be recreated in fairly short order... then if you use pedit command, you could change the thickness of the polylines as appropriate, and likewise convert the curved ones to splines for a smooth curves...

here are the clean logos: http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv8-mdp&p=harley%20davidson%20logo

sorry, I thought there would be free .dxf downloads availabe fairly plentiful... but no luck in the quick search I did...

Is there any way we can set a window for CAD design dwgs for every dwg in AutoCadLite2002?
Q. I work as Cad Deisgner and i dont know how to set same windows for all dwgs, so they all look equally when i print them.

A. usually the coordinate should be 0,0....so try to locate the template of you title block to this coordinate....and also you can use the exreference command to set a unique standard title block on a file, and when ever you need it, you need to copy and paste it on the new file you starting on...and make the necessary changes to it, so it can apply to the right job description...in our case, since the company has already set all this, we just exreference the title block to the following drwgs....floorplan, elevations, roof plan...and so on....write back at israelmoya20@yahoo.com...for more information...I am a drafter for an Architectural company for San Antonio Texas, but we are in Laredo, Texas....
